Clever Devices and New Jersey Transit Deliver Real Time Service Information for Bus Customers
The New Jersey Board of Directors approved a contract in February to allow NJ Transit's entire bus fleet to be equipped with the smart bus technology from Clever Devices, Ltd, a NY-based transit technology company, advancing the agency's drive toward real-time service information for bus customers. The $22 million contract with Clever Devices includes a suite of SmartBus technology hardware, software and services for the installation of smart bus equipment on approximately 2,200 transit, cruiser, and articulated buses. The death-defying tactic of edging into traffic to see when the next bus is coming will no longer be needed on two Manhattan routes. A free bus-tracking Web service called BusTime is being tested on the M16 and M34 lines -- allowing riders to simply check their smartphones to find out how long until the next coach arrives and even its current location. The MTA and NYCDOT are Going Green
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) are employing the latest Clever Devices SmartBus™ technology to improve service along 34th Street in Manhattan. Clever Devices is demonstrating their SmartBus™ technology on 30 MTA buses running on the M34 and M16 routes. SmartBus™ improves accessibility and enhances rider comfort and convenience by providing next stop announcements on vehicles as well as real-time arrival information at eight bus shelters.
Expansion of CTA Bus Tracker Nears Completion with the Activation of 19 Routes
Progress continues as 19 additional bus routes will be added to CTA’s Bus Tracker web site on Monday, April 20. The popular bus service tool provides customers with estimated bus arrival times and real-time service information. When the additional routes are activated, a total of 129 of CTA’s 153 bus routes will be part of the Bus Tracker service.

CTA To Expand BusTracker (Clever Devices BusTime)… Service Management Tool Provides Bus Location and Estimated Arrival Time
The Chicago Transit Board today approved three contracts totaling $24.1 million that allows CTA to expand the Bus Tracker program to all 154 bus routes. The contracts with Clever Devices, IBM and Sprint/Nextel provide for the purchase and installation of hardware and system upgrades needed in order for the program to be functional on CTA’s entire bus fleet.

Any CTA customer who has a computer or a wireless device with Internet access soon will be able to find out using technology that the agency's board decided Monday to install on all of its buses. A bus-tracking experiment that began in August 2006 on the No. 20 Madison route will be expanded systemwide, providing real-time bus-arrival information that should help commuters reduce their waiting times.
CARTA Implementing Smartbus System. Buses To have Wi-Fi, New Fare System.
CARTA is moving to implement its long-planned Smartbus program that includes automatic vehicle locating via a global positioning system and an automatic vehicle management system, Executive Director Tom Dugan said. A contract has been awarded to Clever Devices as the prime contractor for the project.
